Aju is a much-respected tabla and Mrudangam maker from Kochi. He also repairs and tunes these instruments for renowned artists from different parts of Kerala. He and his two assistants work from a cramped room adjacent to his small house where half a dozen tablas are found scattered around in different stages of making. His drums are completely hand made right from sourcing and processing of the raw materials. In the video, he briefly explains the different stages of making a tabla and also about his life. Even though numbers of youngsters picking up learning the tabla is falling, Aju cheerfully engages in his passion.
